Politeness, not correctness, different layers and Erklären und Verstehen
To be polite in a deeper/substantial sense could mean amongst others:
To hurt superficial ‘feelings’, to challenge such ideological and outer-layer feelings. (I guess it’s a condition to be able to->) And be respectful and humble with more inner feelings and things that contain much work and earnest effort and energy by the person. That are not instrumental, but constitutional or an extension of the person in a non-superficial/instrumental way [humans as extensional beings that incorporate parts of their work, their art, their possessions, their ideas and dreams etc.]
This also can lead us to one possible distinction between
Erklären — explaining and rather analysing, sobering dissections, sober reconstruction, etc.)
and Verstehen — understanding and rather: synthesising particular contexts (of particular persons, groups, situations etc. in their life-world). In combination with general and singular insights.
Of course, as a pluralist, I say: We need both Erklären and Verstehen. And they happen parallel, not to be brought into one method or layer of the Plural of Existence.
